I’m surprised it’s cheaper, easier to fake such ‘normal’ shots!

Stargate Studios via wedontneedroads.

In the hands of TV producers, this technology saves money. In the hands of James Cameron…the most expensive movie ever.

Remarkable technology and excellent jobs by the Cinematographers on matching the light, but in the cases where the tech is used simply to provide the location, it makes me sad.

There’s an energy, a mood, an influence that locations have on a shoot. It affects the actors, the crew, and consequently, the audience. Imagine “Mean Streets” NOT shot in Manhattan or “Giant” NOT shot in Texas. There’s a reason that “Friends” never made us feel like we were in NY. (Well, there were many reasons. OK, forget that example.)

All of JB’s naysaying aside ;), that is ridiculously cool.
